Using this site

IMPORTANT POINTS
  • You will need your school's unique DFE number to register on this site. You only need the establishment number part so
    • For example the whole DFE number might be 874 2308, 874 is the local authority code and 2308 is the establishment number.
  • Some sections of the site do not display properly if you are using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, you need to use Microsoft Explorer.
  • Your Internet Browser will need the Flash 5 Macromedia plugin to display the Panorama and other parts of the site. If you are unsure about plugins, speak to your IT support. If you are familiar with plugins, download the latest plugin using the macromedia link on the Greener Futures home page.
Registering on the site
  • To register on the site, click on the Add New Teacher in the Utilities box.
  • Search for YOUR school using the Search tool. You can select to search by school name, city\town or postcode. To simplify the search, enter the first few letters of your school name; for instance, typing in 'west' will bring up all schools that include the word west; i.e. Western Park School to West Dene School.
  • Once you have found your school, you will have to enter your school's unique 4 digit DFE number. If this is correct, it will take you to the Teachers registration page.
  • If your school is new it may not be listed on our database, please contact us for assistance.
Teacher Registration
  • Enter your teacher name or the name you want to use on the site.
  • Enter your class name (you may enter children from different classes by entering a different class name).
  • Enter an e-mail address that you can access from school. If you forget your password it will be sent to this email address.
  • Answer the secret question. This will be used as a password prompt if you forget your password.
  • Enter your password and keep it somewhere safe.
  • You will need to keep a note of the Teacher ID that you are given at this point as you and your pupils will need this to login.
  • You will then be able to access the Teachers homepage and add your pupils.
Adding your pupils
  • To add your pupils, click on the "Add pupils" button in the white box marked utilities.
  • You will then have to enter the pupil's name, the class, the Key Stage and a unique password for each pupil. You can access the pupil’s password every time you log on. You can continue to add the all the pupils who are taking part.
    • IMPORTANT keep it simple, where possible only use their first names, you cannot have two pupils with the same name so if you have two pupils called James put their initial as well; for example: James T and James F
    • the pupils will not be able to see their passwords when they are typing them so keep them short, do not use capitals – this is not the time to get them to practise spelling!
  • To allow the pupils to log in and add their data you need to activate them.
  • Print off a copy off the full class list, the most common problem when the pupils come to log in is their names being spelled incorrectly (either by you or them) or miss typing their password.
  • To activate all your students, simply click the "check all" button, then click the activate button.
  • Your students can now log on to the questionnaire by putting their details into the student login page. If you wish to activate or de-active individual pupils, simply click in the check box next to their name and click the activate/deactivate button. You can proceed to the student login page by clicking on the "Proceed to student login" button.
Using the site with your class Once you have logged in you can access resources to assist you with using this site in class. There are two sections

Teachers resources: in class notes taking you through the steps for the pupils to login, a check list of everything you need to run the session, links to the National Curriculum and our Data Protection statement,

Pupil resources: pdf versions of the two questionnaires to allow you to print them off and work through them in class if you wish, id charts to allow the pupils to answer the questions (these are different for KS1 and KS2), a glossary or term. The intention is that the second questionnaire be completed at home so a pdf of and example letter explaining the site and the project is available to download to send home with a copy of the second questionnaire.

The pupils only need their login to add information to the questionnaires; they can use the Panorama at any time.
